A4P has been my favorite podcast for awhile. Very funny.

However, recently I have had to ask myself what the show is about. It does not seem to be about music production, because all kinds of software and hardware is released regularly, and almost none of it gets reviewed on the show.

This week we got the Akai DAW, which is very fresh, but then 20 minutes of listening to samples of silly genres from a website that has nothing to do with music production.

And even the DAW discussion showed no preparation. Unable to come up with any other free DAWs for comparison? Only requires a little research. Bandlab has only a browser-based DAW with no plugins??? Not even close. Bandlab bought Cakewalk’s Sonar Platinum a year ago and immediately released it for free, without restriction, including native plugins, the ProChannel (Softube and Overloud stuff), and the basic instruments. And it has been updated half a dozen times already, including adding a chord track to keep up with Studio One. So that’s a free professional-level DAW, dismissed as a web-based gimmick. (Reminds me of the cursory dismissal of Pigments, one of the best newer synths out there).

Show needs to refocus.
